Pumpkin Hat Tutorial

*This is my own pattern. I'm sharing this with you for FREE, I've changed my mind, so if you'd like to sell the finished product, please feel free! Pumpkin Hat Tutorial

Yarn
Red Heart in Pumpkin and green (I don't know the exact color of green because
I lost the label long ago)

Abbreviations
Chain-Ch
Stitch-St
Single Crochet-Sc
Half Double Crochet-Hdc
Single stitch 2 together-Sc2tog

How to Half double crochet- Yarn over insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through. You should have three loops on your hook (as you would in a double crochet), yarn over and pull yarn through all three loops. Hdc made.

How to single stitch 2 together- Insert hook into stitch, yarn over pull through, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, pull through. At this point you should have 3 loops on hook. Yarn over and pull through all three loops. Sc2tog made, also known as a decrease.

Sizes are as follows;
Baby (toddler, child, teen, adult)

Ch. 31 (36, 36, 41, 46)
Row 1- Hdc in second ch from hook and to end. Ch. 1, turn. 30 Hdc (35, 35, 40, 45)
Row 2- Hdc in back loops only starting at the very first Hdc of previous row. (do not skip any stitches). Ch. 1, turn. 30 (35, 35, 40, 45)
Row 3-38- Repeat Row 2. Baby size.
Row 3-45- Repeat Row 2 for Toddler size.
Row 3-50- Repeat Row 2 for Child size.
Row 3-60- Repeat Row 2 for Teen and Adult size.

Once all rows are completed for size, ch. 1, turn, and place foundation row back to back with last row. Sc through both loops on last row and through foundation ch. This will create a seam, you are closing up the rows and making a tube. Turn inside out to where the seam will now be on the inside. Ch. 1, turn the tube so that you will be working counter clockwise on the top of the tube.

Last row and foundation row back to back with hook through both.

Sc through both the foundation and last row to create your seam.

Tube created. Turn inside out so seam is on inside. Ch. 1 and work counter clockwise.

Top of Hat
Round 1- Sc around as eveningly as you can around top of hat. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch made.
Round 2- Sc in next stitch and to the end. Move marker.
Round 3- Sc2tog to the end, as evenly as possible, add a Sc if necessary. Move marker.
Round 4- Sc2tog as evenly as possible, repeat to end. Move marker.
Continue to Sc2tog until you get as close to 12 stitches as possible. In the round that you reach 12 stitches (or close to it) switch to green color for steam with your last stitch.

The top of your hat will be wavy and "misshapen" unlike a regular beanie. This gives the hat a more of a pumpkin look.

Stem
Round 1- Sc2tog to make 6 stitches (or closest to it).
Round 2-7- Sc in next sc. Repeat to end. At the end of Round 7, fasten off yarn and leave a long tail. Sew the top of the stem closed and weave in all ends.


Vine
With Green ch. 14 loosely. Make a long tail with the slip knot for attaching later.

Row 1- Work 4 Dc in second ch from hook. 4 Dc in each remaining ch until end. Fasten off, leave a tail. Attach vine anywhere around the stem. Pull both tails around a stitch and tie together on the inside with a double knot.

Weave in ends and enjoy your hat!

Anniversary=Crafty

Good morning! Ok, I know I said I'd post on Wednesdays but yesterday doesn't count. It was our fourth wedding anniversary! E told me yesterday that he forgot our anniversary and offered me a high five as condolance. I cried a little. It's not that he said he forgot our anniversary, it was the high five that made it hurt. I looked at him and said, "you're making it worse." There has been so much going on here lately that truthfully I didn't know what day of the week it was until our Parents As Teachers lady texted to see if we were still ok to have our meeting the next day. In truth, I lost track of the anniversary, didn't forget! Just misplaced the days. But my sweet husband, who isn't like some husbands really did remember and had it all planned out.

He had these sent to me these, gerbera daisies, my favorite flower and our wedding flower, with a card that said, "Happy anniversary. I love you. E." He and little A took me to dinner at Johnny Carino's at the Legends and we ate all of our favorites! We don't go there hardly at all so it's really special when we do go. E told me that all other speghettis taste weird compared to mine (which is his favorite dish). It made me really happy to hear him say that.
Then we went to Cabela's to exchange something E bought that didn't work out for him and came home and did our normal routine stuff. But wait! He had something else for me! Oh my gosh! A Big Foot Free Motion Foot for my machine! *heart melting excitement* This guy was late coming home Monday night because he had to drive all the way from Kansas City to Lawrence (both are on the opposite sides of where we live) to pick it up. He must love me or something! I've been after this foot since January, with minimal searching though. And he bought it for me!

It's pretty much amazing! He's amazing! He remembers way more than I give him credit for sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I got him something too, but I'm making his for him, that quilt I mentioned earlier and that granny stripe blanket, of course neither were finished on time, but who is surprised? Not me! My brother didn't get his Christmas present until May! But it was a great day and a happy anniversary!

Apparently it was a great success along with the quilt. It made the mother-to-be cry or almost cry, but she loved them and that's what matters! I didn't add toe nails because the pattern I used for the bootie wouldn't look right with toe nails.

I've also revised my pattern for the cupcake hat, I think I'll actually write it up and share it with you! And I'm also working on quilted coffee sleeves.

They're really fun and easy to make. I'll have to punch out a tutorial/pattern for that too.

I'm mass producting these they're so fast to make! Besides that crafty has been a little slow this week because E's schedule is backward so mine is too. Next week it'll mostly be back to normal thankfully.

Besides all that, we've been hermitting inside from the horrible heat, plus Little A is taking an antibotic that makes her already fair, redheaded skin more sensitive to the sun. Here I was excited for summer so we could spend most of our days outside! Ha! Maybe we'll get a cool down soon. Anyway, I hope you all have a great rest of the week!

Weekends and Hats

Hello! This week has been upside down for my family. Last week, on Friday I believe, E got a call from work telling him his hours would be 3pm-11pm instead of 7am-3pm which he's had since he started with this company. He was quite upset about it, understandable so, seeing as how we were all set in our routine. We both remained optimistic all weekend but as Monday drug on we both grew quiet and sat together silently through Little A's nap. The first night was hardest but each night has gotten easier. The only good part about having the evenings to myself is I get to watch America's Next Top Model, which E hates but I'm drawn to for whatever reason, and I get to craft my little heart out when Little A goes to sleep. I miss him though. Thank goodness for text messaging!

We went to the Legends, an outdoor shopping center in Wyandotte county, on Sunday early so we could hang out and hardly anyone was there! Which was nice because we let Little A loose among the concrete jungle.

She played in the fountain with E, getting everyone a little wet. We stopped in Panera to have a bagel, and Little A loved her chocolate chip bagel. We also stopped at T-Rex Café and they have an animatronic (spelling?) t-Rex that Little A thought was pretty cool. Weird considering she cried at Santa but loves giant twinkies and meat eating dinosaurs! Who knew?

Yes, she really enjoyed our morning trip there. Wore her little butt out too! Another good thing about E being on second shift is we go on a walk every morning (weather premitting!) which everyone enjoys, especially Mabel and Tonka, the two corgis.

Little A and I spend most of our evenings out back before dinner and then we enjoy a nice meal together at the table. Some nights are bath nights, others I let her play in the living room or we go back outside. But once she goes to sleep I have to entertain myself. Here's what's been keeping me busy lately:

That's a little better. I have some other things I've been working on that I can't wait to show you, but they're not in a good place to where I'd be happy to show you just yet. But soon! There is still so much summer left and so many projects to get done, but it doesn't feel overwhelming (is that two or one word?), it feels like a breath of fresh challenge! There's something I think I'd like to do project and blog wise, together, so I'll probably have that ready for next week.
